David O. Russell To Direct And Adapt Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Even after the announcement that Natalie Portman would be playing Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the idea of the film even being made is somewhat surreal. I've flipped through the book and if the transitions between period piece and zombie apocalypse are done in the film as they are done in the novel, then audiences will be in for quite a treat. In order for this to work, however, the movie is going to need a capable director and writer to tackle the material. Well, how does David O. Russell sound?
An inside source tells Pajiba that Russell has been tapped to direct and adapt the Jane Austen-esque zombie film. The director currently has two films in post-production, including The Fighter, starring Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg.
Though he doesn't have any horror (unless you count this) or period pieces to his name, this could be interesting. Russell has always been deft at mixing comedy with drama, and since the whole story is done with tongue firmly in cheek, the tone should be right up his alley. When it comes right down to it, though, this movie is going to have Natalie Portman cutting up zombies with a dagger, so how bad could it be?
