David O. Russell's The Fighter Set For December Release Date
Considering that it's a film starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams, David O. Russell's The Fighter has sitting been sitting on someone's desk for far too long. Though it has been completed for months now, there has been no indication as to when it would get a wide release. Finally, Paramount has decided to stick a date on the film and, surprise, it's right in the heart of Oscar season.
The studio has announced that The Fighter will be given a wide release on December 10, 2010. Though there's only one film on that date right now, it's a bit of a doozy: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Just like every film that goes up against a blockbuster, Paramount is obviously trying to attract audiences with no interest in the work of C.S. Lewis and grow with positive word of mouth.
Release dates often say a lot about a film, and this one says a bunch. Placing it in the heart of December says that the studio has a lot of faith in the movie's quality, but then begs the question why it's been sitting around for such a long time. Now that we know when the film is coming, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that the trailer is probably going to be coming out soon.
