David Reynolds is going from Finding Nemo’s underwater world and the animal town of Chicken Little and becoming Universal’s nightmare – the writer behind their Nightmare Academy that is. Universal has hired Reynolds to adapt the first book of the children’s literature trilogy for their upcoming movie, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Reynolds is no stranger to children’s stories. He was part of the Oscar-nominated team that created Finding Nemo and also worked on A Bug’s Life with Pixar. Now he’ll help create this story about a school that trains young adults to fight the monsters of nightmares. It follows Charlie Benjamin, a kid whose powers are more powerful than anyone expected, and when he comes to the Academy he inadvertently opens a portal to the Netherworld, the home of ultimate evil. A highly powerful kid at a new supernatural school - never heard of that one before.

The first book in the series just came out in August, although Universal has already purchased the trilogy rights. Stephen Sommers and Bob Ducsay are serving as Universal’s producers.
