Because I know all you’re all hungry for it, let me hit you with some sassy Dax Shepard casting news. Who the hell is Dax Shepard you ask? He’s the guy responsible for Ashton Kutcher’s rise to popularity. Grab your torches let’s hunt him down.
Shepard co-starred or co-pranked or whatever with Kutcher on his MTV show “Punk’d” and proved to be just about the only funny thing about it. Strangely enough, his unique brand of redneck-punk funny doesn’t translate well into movies. I know this because I just had to sit through his debut in Without a Paddle.
Anyway, someone thinks he’s hilarious, or talented, or something and that someone is the usually respectable John Favreau who has cast him to play an Astronaut in Zathura for Columbia pictures. Zathura is an adaptation of a children’s novel by the same name which I have never heard of probably because I do not have children and I have not yet bothered to teach my dog to read. We’re still working on “sit”. But apparently the book follows two young lads on an intergalactic journey when their house is magically sent hurdling through space. It sounds sort of like Mom an Dad Save the World though no doubt it won’t have the genius of a Light Grenade. Also they rode in a Space-Station Wagon, not a Space-House.
Filming kicks off in L.A. this summer with a release date slated for some time in 2005.
