De Niro Drops Out Of Boston Drama![]()
Maybe Robert De Niro was embarrassed by looking at his own performance in the trailers for Righteous Kill. Maybe he and Mel Gibson have some beef going back to when DeNiro thought he was perfect for the role of Mad Max. Whatever happened, DeNiro has abruptly left the set of Edge of Darkness in which he was set to star alongside Gibson with Martin Campbell directing.
DeNiro's rep had a curt explanation for Variety: "Sometimes things don't work out; it's called creative differences." Of course, creative differences is the vaguest explanation possible; it could mean everything from a fistfight between De Niro and the director to too many complaints about the catering service. Either way, walking off the set just a week after you got there is definitely not a sign of "everything is sunshine and rainbows." Now poor Campbell is in charge of a shoot in which one of the main roles isn't filled; they're apparently filming around De Niro's character until they can replace him. De Niro's character is an operative who covers up the murder of a young woman, who turns out to be the daughter of Mel Gibson's character, a homicide detective in Boston. |
