Denis Leary In Talks To Play Gwen Stacy's Father In Spider-Man Reboot![]()
If you haven't already noticed, the casting for Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot has been rather...unconventional. Andrew Garfield is almost 30, Emma Stone is playing a blonde, Rhys Ifans is playing the villain, Martin Sheen is playing a character that gets killed off in the first act and Sally Field will play a brittle, old aunt. Sure, it's a lot of great names, but also peculiar. By those standards, the newest casting news almost makes sense.
THR reports that Denis Leary is now in talks to join the webslinger movie, where he will play Gwen Stacy's (Stone) father, George Stacy. Why does that sounds right? Because George Stacy is also a police captain and if Leary can play anything, it's a cop. For those that don't like the idea, there is a bright side for you too: the most famous storyline in the comics involving George Stacy has him getting crushed to death by falling debris. While his resume doesn't really show it percentage-wise, Leary has shown time and time again that he actually does have some chops as an actor - talk to anybody who has seen some of the heavier episodes of Rescue Me. Given the right material and direction he can do just fine - he just has a tendency to pick really shitty projects (Read: Operation Dumbo Drop). If his only real job in this movie is to die, then c'est la vie. Otherwise, it will be interesting to see what he can really do. |
