For whatever reason, stripper seems to be the hot new role to play in Hollywood. Natalie Portman did it, Lindsay Lohan did it, and now Denise Richards is doing it.
Variety says the actress, who much like parsley is usually used just for looks (though I hear she also freshens breath), has a part in an upcoming drama called A Beautiful Life. In it, Denise Richards plays an “exotic dancer”, which is a polite way of saying she shoves her crotch in the face of men for cash.
Does that mean Ms. Richards will try to find her way back to relevancy by getting naked on camera? It’s worked for other out of the limelight actresses, it could work for her. But the other thing that seems to have gone hand in hand with this stripper trend is that most of the time, the characters end up being the only strippers in the history of the planet who don’t actually get naked. Movie strippers. Will Denise Richards play a movie stripper or a real stripper? I’m betting the former, though unlike Portman and Lohan she may actually be desperate enough to play a real one. After all, her next movie has her “acting” opposite Pamela Anderson in a movie called Blonde and Blonder. Richards is Blonde, which I guess makes her the smart one. If I were her, I’d do just about anything to get away from her and into a decent movie. It really doesn’t get any worse than that.

This is how actresses looking to "grow on camera" get away with playing a stripper -- they get to do something "risque" while at the same time still cheating on the nudity. It's lame, I tell ya. If you don't want to get naked on camera, I get that. I wouldn't either, I don't blame you. But then don't play a stripper. I mean, by definition strippers strip, and not just down to their undies. It would be like playing a Chef who never cooks anything, or a skater who only stands near the ice but never actually puts on a pair of skates.
I respect actresses who want to keep their clothes on, but stay away from parts that require nudity then.
Denise Richards has said things in the past sounding like she wants to be taken more seriously as an actress, and wants to become the type that can win an Oscar. She's been cast in mostly "eye candy" roles. So what does she do? She goes out and does "Blonde and Blonder" and now a movie where she'll play a stripper. It IS an Indie, so maybe the stripper will have a well developed character and Ms. Richards will have a chance to work on developing her acting. It could work - many consider Angelina Jolie's breakout movie to be Gia, where she gave a fine dramatic performance as the troubled supermodel. If this new role turns out to be just another shallow performance showcasing her body, then Ms. Richards' chances of being taken seriously will likely diminish. She's definitely smart, but she has a weak voice and apparently never spent time in acting workshops. Her range is just about non-existent.

Denise and smart are two words that cannot coincide in the English language. I knew her before she was acting and although physically beautiful, this girl is far from smart. The reason why she only appears in eye candy roles is because she simply CANNOT act ONSCREEN. In real life, she's very good at covering her two faced, insincere personality with the sweet, naive girl act. Actions speak louder than words and her betraying a friend (Heather Locklear) was Denise showing her true colors.
She's pretty to look at but listening to her deliver lines is like nails on a chalkboard. If you catch her appearance on Saved by the Bell years ago and watch her in something recent, her skills have not improved. Some people have it and others don't. Denise does NOT. She's lucky she's got her looks working for her. Anyone ever catch that picture of her leading the pony while her daughter, Sam has got this scared look on her face?? True to Denise mannerisms, Denise is oblivious to those around her and is leading the horse while she prances in front, smiling for the camera while her little girl is terrified. Man, I could tell you some stories but it's not worth it. The girl is pretty though, I will give you that. But she's fake as can be.
