Denzel's Great Debaters Trailer![]()
Quietly, in gold-gilded, rented livingrooms across the country, there’s a revolution happening. Scarface posters are being pulled off the wall to be replaced by American Gangster one sheets. Denzel Washington now points his gun out over the game room of every rapper and NBA player in America. And that’s a shame, because it’s far from Denzel’s best movie. Wouldn’t it be nice if they latched on to something with a better message, something that doesn’t glorify murder and money, but instead glorifies standing up for your beliefs and oh I don’t know, learning to read?
That’s what’s going on in Denzel Washington’s next movie The Great Debaters, but the keepin’ it real crowd will never see it. What a bummer, because the film’s first trailer has popped up online and it looks inspiring. The Great Debaters stars Washington as Professor Melvin Tolson, a brilliant but volatile debate team coach who uses the power of words to shape a group of underdog students from a small African American college in the deep south into a historically elite debate team. A controversial figure, Professor Tolson challenged the social mores of the time and was under constant fire for his unconventional and ferocious teaching methods as well as his radical political views. Watch the trailer in high-res by clicking right here, but don’t bother if you’ve already hung your American Gangster poster. |
