Somewhere in between ruining Willy Wonka and filming the next adventures of Captain Jack, Johnny Depp squeezed in another movie. It's a period piece, but not one in the frighteningly boring, Jane Austen sense of the term

The Libertine is the story of John Wilmot, sleazebag, rebel, and the second Earl of Rochester. He beds an actress and then writes a play lampooning the king who commissioned it. From the guy's attitude in the trailer, I'm not sure he'd be bothered all that much about the subsequent banishment. He's kind of like the Madonna of his time.

The movie is dark and a bit hard to see. But it's interesting… for a period piece. At least it's not a lot of women swooning in bonnets. Give it a chance. Watch the trailer via the link below:
