Devastation Comes To Transformers Sequel![]()
I confess I was one of the original dissenting G1 fanboys who bad-mouthed the original Transformers at every opportunity during production. However, I was also strong enough to admit that they didn't totally screw it up once I saw it. Sure a lot of the humor was misjudged, the shaky-cam was awful and there was far too much focus on too many human characters at the expense of more interesting inter-robot relations, but it was enjoyable enough as a whole.
With all the origin crap dispensed with, hopes are high that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be able to focus more on what we want to see and less on what came under fire from even the most positive critic. Not that Michael Bay is ever interested in anyone's opinion other than Michael Bay's, but hope remains.
Some exciting news for the sequel comes from the awkwardly named TFW2005 (never put a year in your URL guys). They have managed to get confirmation about one (or seven, depending on your point of view) of the new Decepticons who will make an appearance: the much anticipated Devastator.
For those non-fanboys out there, Devastator is the most powerful of all G1 transformers due to the fact that he is formed from seven separate transformers (known as Constructicons during the cartoon era) coming together as one giant 'bot of carnage. TFW2005 has confirmed that
Devastator should up the ante of destruction in Michael Bay's sequel, but I guess the real question is how he'll keep humans, normal transformers and a towering robot 4 times the size of normal transformers in his shaky-cam frame when he had trouble doing it with just two of those in the first installment. Click over to TFW2005 to see the Long Haul artwork mentioned above. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is scheduled for June 26th, 2009, unless a Large Hadron Collider destroys the universe first. |
