Dewey Cox Walks Hard Across America![]()
Breaking into the music business is a lot like climbing the corporate ladder. No one really starts out as a C.E.O. There’s a whole lot of temping, coffee-fetching and ass-kissing that goes on first, just as future chart toppers must endure shitty clubs, open mic nights, and minuscule payouts. Not Dewey Cox, though. The legendary blues musician, who happens to be fictional, is embarking on his first cross-country tour, and early estimates indicate it will sell-out everyday. I guess it helps to have a Judd Apatow film as your principal promotion.
According to Variety, Dewey Cox (or John C. Reilly in disguise) will traipse across the Heartland for "Cox Across America", playing seven dates in total. The tour kicks off this Wednesday at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and then rolls in to Chicago Austin, Nashville, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. Each gig will also be directly proceeded by a film screening of Walk Hard. The whole thing reminds me of Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Scherer touring as Spinal Tap, only they waited until the movie launched ‘em to stardom. The tour starts on Wednesday; so, if you live in Cleveland, Chicago, San Francisco, L.A., Austin, Nashville, or New York City, check with your local Ticketmaster immediately. Cox will, of course, be accompanied by his loyal backing band The Hard Walkers. No word on whether the supporting group's namesake arose from Dewey's trademark anthem or Christopher Reeves' attempts to get up after the fall. For the sake of being P.C., we'll assume the former. |
