Despite what the title suggests, Diminished Capacity has not seen a reduced interest in the acting community. Matthew Broderick, Virginia Madsen and Alan Alda have all signed on to the comedy about a family and memory loss, says Variety.
The plot is forgettable comedy gold – a man (Broderick) bumps his head and loses his memory. Obviously, the next course of action involves him taking a trip with his Alzheimer-suffering uncle (Alda) and his high school sweetheart (Madsen) to a trade show, where the rag-tag bunch comes up with a scheme to sell a rare baseball card. It’s ok, I’m as confused as you are.
Shooting begins this spring in New York and Chicago. Bobby Cannavale and Lois Smith are also sign to star in this bizarre comedy directed by Terry Kinney.
The film is the latest project for Plum, which also happens to be producing an English-language remake of Michael Haneke’s Cache. Apparently the production company likes making confusing movies because Cache was superb as is and doesn’t need to be remade at the hands of a less talented director. Remaking a year old film in a different language is as good idea as making a memory loss comedy about selling baseball cards.
