I was one of the few people who liked Charlie on Lost all the way through the end, and I was happy beyond belief to see Dominic Monaghan—with a hot new haircut to boot!—show up on the first episode of the new season. So I’m glad to see he’s getting new work, with a new role in the psychological thriller Pet, even if it does sound like a totally generic and lame torture porn movie.
Monaghan plays a man who runs into a girl he had a crush on in high school, and becomes obsessed with her. He eventually drags the poor girl down into a lair underneath the animal shelter where he works—pet, see, get it? Once down there, though, he realizes she’s not everything he thought. Tranny? Black belt? The Hollywood Reporter isn’t telling but I’m hoping it involves creative use of spike heels.
I guess Monaghan isn’t really a big enough name to start leading his own action franchise or something, but doesn't Merry from Lord of the Rings and Charlie Pace deserve better? I’m going to pretend that he’s taking this role because it will be a short shoot with little commitment and he can go back to Hawaii and continue making guest appearances as a ghost on Lost. Delusional? Probably. But no more delusional than the idea that this Pet movie is going to be any good.
