While I have my own doubts about cinematic adaptations of Broadway productions, no doubt you’ll all be interested that Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman have signed to star in the writer/director John Patrick Shanely’s adaptation of “Doubt.” Everyone’s favorite wanna-be-indie studio Miramax Films will distribute the Scott Rudin-produced feature, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-award winning play is set in 1964 and revolves around a nun, Sister Aloysuis played by Streep, and principle of a New York catholic school who accuses a priest, played by Hoffman, of sexually abusing one of his students, which leads to a riveting debate of guilt and innocence. The role of Sister James and another leading role has yet to be filled. More as increase doubt of the project escalates.
