Dr. Who Movie Could Be Done![]()
Dr. Who is still on television, though it’s easy to forget it exists. Most sci-fi fans seem to be either watching Battlestar Galactica or Stargate these days, though since Who is still on I guess someone must be watching it. If you’re in the UK, it may even be you.
If you’re one of the folks watching Dr. Who, then you’ll probably be pleased to know that showrunner Steven Moffat is running around hinting at the possibility of a big screen version. Well, he’s not so much hinting as being questioned until he finally gives up and comes up with an answer, and he’s not so much saying it’s possible as that he’d like to do one or maybe could if someone put a gun to his head. The Guardian caught him at an event where he told them, “But as long as it doesn't get in the way of the show we could do it.” Why am I reporting this again? So to sum up: There is no Dr. Who movie, but if there were Steven Moffat thinks they could do it, and he probably wouldn’t hate doing it. Of course only a mad man would hate doing it, since turning the thing into a movie would probably make him rich, assuming he’s not already rolling in fat Sci-Fi Channel cash. They do pay the help over there, don’t they? Maybe not. Snark aside, this idea of a Dr. Who movie pops up every couple of months or so. The show has been around since the 60s… why hasn’t someone made a big-budget, theatrical movie out of it by now? If Land of the Lost can get turned into a feature film, why hasn’t some greedy Hollywood type mined Dr. Who already? It can’t be low ratings (in America anyway), that didn’t stop Serenity. It’s borderline bizarre that after literally decades of speculation, and a creatively bankrupt environment in which nothing new is ever created for the Sci-Fi genre, that still nothing has really been done to make a serious movie out of Dr. Who. Maybe if they had dancing, or found a way to cast Hannah Montana as the lead... she can travel through time and space can't she? |
