Why does simpler always mean better? Yes, it’s spelt über and not oober, but I’d bet the vast majority of people could understand the title Oobermind. Well, as reported by Slash Film, the folks over at Dreamworks Animation have decided MegaMind would be a more appropriate title for the superhero comedy due out November 5th, 2010. The news came across in a press release announcing the studio’s new deal with the game company THQ. That release also had an updated synopsis:

When super villain MegaMind (Will Ferrell) defeats his archrival Metro Man (Brad Pitt), the world should be his oyster. But instead, MegaMind falls into total despair. It turns out that life without a rival is life without a point for him. So, he creates a new superhero rival, Titan (Jonah Hill). Unfortunately, the new hero wants to be a super villain, too. Caught in the middle, star reporter Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey) asks the tough questions: Who can we turn to? Who has what it takes to stand up to this menace? Who will defend the innocent? MegaMind! That’s who.

Back in August, Ferrell stepped in to fill the lead role vacated by Robert Downey Jr. That change I can accept and even think it’s for the better, but Oobermind is just far more original than MegaMind. On the other hand, I’d go for MegaMind over the film’s original working title, Master Mind. I know it’s just a title, but what’s wrong with a little creativity once in a while?
