Though the script for Milk was great and all, Dustin Lance Black has had an inexplicably fast rise in Hollywood, getting huge billing on the Milk poster and now, post-Oscar, already heading into his directorial debut.
Not only that, but when he's in the director's chair behind What's Wrong With Virginia, he'll be directing the likes of Liam Neeson and Jennifer Connelly. Both actors have signed on for the film, according to Variety, which starts filming this summer in Michigan. Connelly will play a psychologically disturbed woman who's been having a 20-year love affair with the local sheriff (Neeson). Things get even more complicated when her teenage son starts dating his daughter.
Gus Van Sant, apparently believing still in the wunderkind who wrote Milk, will be the executive producer. That's probably something of a safety net for Black, who must be at least a little nervous going into his directorial debut with such a high-profile project. If he knocks this one out, though, there will be pretty much nothing he can't do.
