Dwayne Johnson Gives Us A Peek At His Hercules Transformation
We learned yesterday that principal photography on Brett Ratner's Hercules had begun. What's star Dwayne Johnson been up to since things got rolling on the MGM and Paramount Pictures film? At least three hours has been spent sitting in a chair while he's made-over to play the title role in the film. The Rock tweeted the above photo, which teases his transformation, which evidently includes a lot more hair and a lot less tattoo.
Johnson Tweeted the following along with the above picture:
We can't see his face, but we do get a look at his hair and his shoulder and back. Those familiar with the actor and wrestler know that he has a pretty sizable tattoo covering his left shoulder, but it looks like most it has been covered up. Concealing the ink and arranging the mane of hair is probably just part of what they're doing to transform The Rock into Hercules.
Hercules is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars, and is described as an ensemble-action film with a revisionist take on the classic myth, set in a grounded world - meaning no supernatural abilities. The story takes place after the known legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Hercules has become a mercenary and - joined by his five faithful companions - is traveling around ancient Greece working as a hero for hire, using his reputation to intimidate enemies.
But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules' help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail... he must again become the hero he once was... he must embrace his own myth... he must be Hercules.
Joining Johnson in the cast are Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt. We'll also see The White Queen's Rebecca Ferguson. Hercules will arrive in theaters July 25, 2014.
