E2: Queen Harder

Easily high on the list of “the last sequel you’d expect to be made” director Shekhar Kapur appears to be readying a second chapter of his 1998 flick. Elizabeth.

The movie that launched Cate Blanchett’s career, complete with a Golden globe win and an oscar nod, appears to be having a “part II”. And of course it won’t be titled Elizabeth II. No. This chapter is to be entitled Golden Age. Kapur stated that it deals with the battle between her life as a monarch and her personal life, as well as dealing with the Spanish Armada on a large scale.

Blanchett is set to star and depending on when Elizabeth scribe Michael Hirst hands in the script and when Blanchett and Kapur’s schedules are all clear. But basically the picture is a go. Odds are shooting will take place sometime next year to be released in time for the 2006 awards season.
