Easy A Director Up For Heist Comedy For Richer Or Poorer
Writer-director Will Gluck has a distinctly sharp yet wacky sense of humor that has so far resulted in three comedies that are far better than their subgenres generally offer. The first was the underseen dudes-become-cheerleaders comedy Fired Up!, which Gluck not only helmed but also wrote under the magnificent nom de plume Freedom Jones. What seemed like a stupid comedy was actually demented and even witty fun, but ultimately a box office flop.
But Gluck scored big with his follow-up, the teen sex comedy Easy A, a critically cheered hit that cemented Emma Stone's leading lady status. Then, last summer Gluck gave us a cheeky take on rom-coms with Friends with Benefits, which fared well at the box office and was warmly received by critics, but was sadly overshadowed by the bigger breakouts like Bridesmaids and The Hangover: Part II.
Though Gluck has signed on to produce Screen Gems' upcoming About Last Night remake, it's unknown what his next directorial effort will be. However, Variety believes to have found the answer, uncovering that Gluck has entered into talks with Warner Bros. to helm the poorly named heist comedy For Richer or Poorer.
Thankfully, this film is in no way a remake of the dreadful 1997 comedy of the same name that starred Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley as two rich urbanites who hide from the IRS among the Amish. Instead, this For Richer or Poorer, penned by John Aboud and Michael Colton, centers on a thief who teams up with her ex-boyfriend to stage a wedding ceremony at New York City's Natural History Museum with the hidden agenda of robbing the place. Of course, we can probably assume that along the path to their fake wedding day, the old flames' passions reignite leading to a nail biting but ultimately life and love-affirming finale. In short, it sounds like fun, and potentially clever enough to be right up Gluck's alley. Hopefully, he'll commit soon.
At this time, no talent is attached to For Richer or Poorer, and it's unknown when the film might shoot or if it will be Gluck's next project, even if he does sign on.
