Twilight fanatics are getting more obsessive, but there are fewer of them now than there were last year. At least that's what Wednesday's box office numbers would seem to indicate.

Eclipse, the third movie in the Twilight series, outperformed the previous New Moon in midnight showing sales, breaking the record with over $30 million. But the estimates for Eclipse's entire first day totals only came in at $68 million, falling shy of New Moon's record $72.7 million opening day total.

It's only a small drop, and certainly nothing that executives at Summit Entertainment are going to worry about. The film's production budget just also happens to be $68 million, meaning fans have already paid it off with just one day in theaters.

Eclipse still broke a couple of more records with its first day total. It marked a new record for the largest Wednesday opening, topping the $62 million banked by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It's also the highest amount ever made by a single movie in a single summer day.
