I don’t know when Judd Apatow sleeps and eats, but he must do it standing up because it seems like I’m reporting on some new Apatow project on nearly a daily basis lately. Today we have news on a film he’s producing for former ‘Daily Show’ correspondent and current co-star on ‘The Office’ (where he plays anger management Andy), Ed Helms.
Variety says Universal has picked up a comedy pitch from Helms, Jacke Fleisher, and Ian Berger, with Helms co-writing and starring in the project. The movie is called A Whole New Hugh, and it’s about three guys who try to make their friend appear successful in order to boost his confidence.
The premise doesn’t do much for me, it sounds like a variation on the old nerd fools people into thinking he’s cool premise that we’ve seen dozens and dozens of times before, but Ed Helms is funny and means Hugh is worthy of our attention. Judd Apatow agrees, calling Ed Helms “a national treasure”. Alright, that may be overstating it a bit Judd. He’s Ed Helms, not Maya Angelou.

No, I'm pretty sure Ed is a national treasure.
