Ed Helms Travels True North From The Hangover![]()
Ed Helms has proven himself to be pretty bankable when starring in films that have the word Hangover in the title. Other efforts, from Cedar Rapids to The Goods, haven’t met the same levels of success. But Warner Bros., perhaps in an effort to say “thanks” for all of that Hangover money, is taking a gamble on The Office co-star that could pay off handsomely.
The studio has purchased a film pitch from Rob Pearlstein that’s being fashioned into a Helms vehicle, Deadline reports. Titled True North, the story focuses on an arrogant travel-show host who’s stranded in India following a plane crash, forcing him to try and reconnect with his alienated family after years of isolation. So it’s like a comedic Cast Away, with Helms instead of Tom Hanks. I can get behind that. Helms is undergoing that strange balancing act of having to juggle film work around a busy television schedule. He’s due to return to The Office in the fall, but we wonder how much longer that will last if his film projects continue to blow up like his Hangover franchise. As of right now, I still see Helms as a very funny television-sized performer. Even Cedar Rapids, despite the presence of John C. Reilly and Anne Heche, felt like an SNL skit stretched too thin. But it’s wholly possible Helms will go the way of fellow Daily Show alum Steve Carell, who had to walk away from The Office to meet the needs of a demanding film schedule, if films like North take off. |
