Eli Roth Is Tarantino's Kind of Bastard![]()
If you’ve seen any of his movies then it probably comes as no surprise to hear that torture porn director and Zachary Quinto look-alike Eli Roth is a bastard. What you probably didn’t realize is that he’s Tarantino’s bastard, and an inglorious one at that. Variety reports that Roth will play one of the Jewish Nazi hunters who form the Inglorious Bastards QT’s next film is titled after.
In particular, he’ll play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, a Nazi slayer with a proclivity for gleefully beating members of the Third Reich to death with a baseball bat. Since he’s playing one of the Inglorious Bastards, though, there’s every reason to think his part might not be much more than a cameo, since the Bastards the movie is titled after are, believe it or not, basically bit players in QT’s story, which in the script plays out more like The Majestic meets Diary of Anne Frank than as the Nazi revenge movie it’s advertised as. If the part really works out to be as small as indicated by that script, then stunt casting a non-actor like Roth in the part I guess makes sense… or if it doesn’t make sense at least it doesn’t really matter. In other Bastards news though, Variety says that Leo DiCaprio is out of the picture. He was supposed to be in contention to play SS Col. Hans Landa, but now apparently Tarantino has decided to go with a genuine German for the role. Stay close to the phone, Uwe Boll. |
