The trailer for Cameron Crowe’s newest film Elizabethtown has hit the web and guess what - something’s different.
No, it’s still a Cameron Crowe film, which means quirky relationships filled with interesting dialog which will contain the next big catch phrase (see: “I am the Golden God”, and “Show me the Money”). So what’s different? It’s an Orlando Bloom film set in modern times.
That’s right, Orlando Bloom minus any sort of skirt, long hair, elven ears, swords, or medieval weapons of any type. I have to say: it’s about frickin’ time! I’m ready to see Bloom leave the days of the past in the... er, past... and stretch his acting muscles a bit. I’m also impressed. If Bloom was going to break from his period piece fixation, Cameron Crowe was the right director to do it with.
From the trailer, Elizabethtown looks to be a very Garden State type story, with a young man (Bloom) coming home for his father’s funeral only to find love in an unlikely person (a flight attendant played by Kirsten Dunst) and be forced to get to know his family a little better. Of course, with a family played by a range of actors like Alec Baldwin and Bruce McGill, I’m not sure I’d want to be around them much either.
Elizabethtown hits theaters in October of this year.
