Ellen DeGeneres and her daytime talk show have been building a solid reputation among moms, so I guess it was inevitable that DeGeneres would want to become a mom herself. Well, kinda. The comedian has agreed to play Mother Nature in an upcoming comedy at Walden Media.-- her first actual onscreen appearance since 1999.

The film is based on an original concept about Mother Nature coming to earth for the first time since it was created. Sex and the City writer and executive producer Jenny Bicks is writing the screenplay, but I have a feeling the movie will lean much more toward the kid-friendly side of things.

DeGeneres, in usual form, had a funny quip to offer The Hollywood Reporter. "I've always wanted to control the weather. Nothing will stop me from doing this ... neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet. ... I may be thinking of the postal service -- but I'm really excited about the movie."

After her voice work in Finding Nemo I'd be perfectly happy for DeGeneres to voice cartoon characters for the rest of her life, but an actual live-action role is just fine too.
