Fantasy-based films are a tricky genre. Occasionally, you end up with a Star Wars or a Lord of the Rings, but most of the time you get Battlefield Earth and Eragon. Thus a new gamble will be taken with the fantasy series “Elric,” which will be helmed Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps writer Chris Weitz. With the help of his American Pie-director brother Paul, the two will tackle the mythological story of an educated, sickly albino emperor who abandons the throne, reports Empire.
“Of the great classic fantasy series, it’s the one that hasn’t been done yet,” Chris Weitz tells Empire . “My brother Paul and I liked those books growing up and we’ve met Michael Moorcock and he trusts us to take those books forward.”
The adaptation will be produced by The Weitz’s Depth Of Field production company, but has yet to sign a director.
"I’d really like it if my brother directed them,” Weitz added.
Nothing says fantasy like a sickly, albino emperor with a pie on his dick.

This is something I've been waiting for for soooo many years, and with Michael Moorcock being there to guide them, I know if it gets made, it will be phenomenal. Now, if we can only get more info on when it'll be made and released, you can bet your ass I'll be first in line to see it.
Elric has the potential to be the greatest film of all time, if it is done to the book! The actor chosen to play Elric must be white skinned of course and at least 6ft but with enough muscle (assisted by drugs) to allow the albino to function at least at near average levels before he obtains Stormbringer.
Jude Law would be perfect as the slimy cousin Yrkoon.
I have been chomping at the bit to see how an adaptation of this fantastic, tripped-out saga would be for a loooong time. Hopefully soon . . .
And if it's a success, maybe we'll even see a film adaptation of the "Swords Trilogy"/ "Chronicles of Corum" series by Moorcock: Corum was as fascinating a tragic champion character as Elric.
That is unfortunate. I identified with that book series greatly when I was in high school. Hopefully one day it will be made...it will be a true loss to see the film never made. The Elric series is a true classic.
Ridiculous to expect much from those two screen writers. If they go through with this it will flop like a wet fish on a rainy day. This film is far too good for them.
I agree with Colin. A film like this needs the touch of Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro for the film to be a success. If not it will be like that movie clip of Elric I saw on YouTube....If anybody is interested in seeing the clip, go to you tube and look for elric of melnibone.

Still no news with this project? I'm beginning to doubt it'll ever get off the ground :(
