Well it’s official. Larry and Andy Wachowski have found their Speed Racer, and it’s The Girl Next Door star Emile Hirsch. Emile gets to be the guy who pretends to drive in front of a bluescreen while sitting next to a monkey. Ok, they’ll probably drop the monkey for the movie but it makes me laugh to think of Speed Racer as a high-tech Hollywood remake of Every Which Way But Loose.
Emile seems pretty jazzed to be in Speed Racer, a film which he weirdly describes as Blade Runner meets Andy Warhol. If you’re wondering how that’s possible, Warner Brothers has given us a video clip of Emile talking about his new role as Speed. Watch it by clicking play on the embedded vid below:
