Emilio Estevez And Martin Sheen Reunite As Father And Son In Trailer For The Way

A director giving himself a role in his or her own film isn't anything new. Alfred Hitchcock famously filmed a secret cameo in almost all of his films; Quentin Tarantino gave himself the film's best monologue in Reservoir Dogs; and that's Martin Scorsese's voice you hear at the beginning of Mean Streets. But how many directors do you know have their character die as the catalyst for the film's plot and then cast their dad to exercise grief? The answer is only one: Emilio Estevez. The first trailer for The Way has arrived online and you can check it out below or in HD over on Apple.

As you probably gathered from the trailer, the film is about a man named Tom Avery (Martin Sheen) who learns that his free-spirit son has been found dead on the El camino de Santiago - a hiking path that runs from France to Santiago de Compostela. As a way of honoring his son's memory, he decides to take the trip himself and scatter his son's ashes along the way. As he walks he runs into other travelers and they share their stories along the journey. The film will be premiering at this year's Toronto International Film Festival in September and will be released only a month later in the US, on October 7th.
