Emma Stone Offered The Lead Role In Pride & Prejudice & Zombies![]()
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the oft-changing adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's mashup novel, finally seems ready to go in front of the cameras with Craig Gillespie directing, and now a seriously big star possibly ready to take on the lead role. Variety reports that Emma Stone has been offered the lead role in the film, presumably to play the Jane Austen heroine Elizabeth Bennett, who in this version of the story fights off zombies with the help of her true love Mr. Darcy.
Though at one point it seemed like she might star in the film, Natalie Portman is only on board as a producer at this point, along with Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly, of all people. And though David O. Russell is no longer involved as a director, Gillespie explained in April that his script is still what they'll be working from. If they get Stone on board they could presumably actually start shooting soon, though they'll need a good Mr. Darcy and a whole fleet of zombies to go along with her. Stone is seemingly in everything these days, playing smallish roles in this summer's Crazy Stupid Love and Friends With Benefits, plus a staring role in the Southern dramedy The Help. And that's all before she takes her turn as Gwen Stacy to Peter Parker's Spider-Man in next summer's The Amazing Spider-Man. It's pretty impressive that she'll be able to make time to fight zombies, but when you're given the chance to be both a literary heroine and and a fighter of the undead, how do you say no? |
