The fantasy genre has always been a mixed bag to me. While I love Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series, I pretty much detest the rest of it. I especially hate dragons. Don’t ask why. Maybe I was a cousin of Gimli in a past life or something. Recently Eragon by Christopher Paolini has become the latest fantasy book series to begin film production. And frankly, the cast might get even me excited about a stinking dragon movie!
Shurtugal (which I guess means something to Eragon-ites) has a three-minute promotional video about the current filming of Eragon, which will be in theatres in late 2006. While there are no dragons to be seen, Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich immediately peaked my interest when they appeared on screen! Irons has been a personal favorite of mine since his role of Claus Von Bulow in Reversal of Fortune. Newcomer Ed Speleers stars as Eragon and is joined by Irons, Malkovich, Djimon Hounsou, and Sienna Guillory. Stefan Fangmeier directs his feature film debut after years of being a visual effects whiz on movies like Lemony Snickets, Saving Private Ryan and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
