Eric Bana Does Standup For Apatow

By Josh Tyler: 2008-06-12 01:00:57
Eric Bana Does Standup For Apatow Judd Apatow has gone from finding success by making stars out of people like Steve Carell and Seth Rogen, to simply hiring stars. His next movie will be shockingly celeb-heavy, and there’s word that it may not even be a flat out comedy. It will however, be about comedy.

Apatow’s next directorial project is a movie called Funny People and it’s set in the world of standup comedy. We already knew Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Leslie Mann would be in the cast, but now Variety has the latest on new additions. Rounding things out will be Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, and Apatow familiar Jonah Hill.

Eric Bana, known solely as a serious dramatic actor, might seem like an odd fit for an Apatow movie, but apparently he started out as a standup comic in Australia. So not only is Judd getting a guy who is without a doubt one of Hollywood’s best actors, he’s getting someone with experience in the world his story is set in. Funny Games should give both Judd and Bana a chance to stretch themselves and try something a little different. Whether it works out or not (and it’s Apatow so come on, of course it will), that’s a good thing.
