Eric Stoltz And Powers Booth Will Howl

By Josh Tyler: 2007-12-05 00:06:43
Eric Stoltz And Powers Booth Will Howl We’ve seen the Kung Fu homage, the grindhouse homage, isn’t it about time someone did a decent Werewolf homage? That’s what Eric Stoltz is up to. He’s been tapped to play a part in a movie called Howl, which writer/producer and Moviehole.net head honcho Clint Morris calls an “homage to classic werewolf movies”.

Howl’s plot sounds a little like a werewolf take on the awesome, overlooked Canadian vampire series Forever Knight, which has recently been sort of ripped off by the new American series Moonlight. Clint sent us details on the film this afternoon, and says: “The main story fixes on a young police detective, John Howl, whose life is forever changed by a sexual encounter he had whilst on leave. He returns to Los Angeles, a different man/animal. He stays in the force, but because he’ll only work certain hours – for obvious reasons – he’s not exactly popular. His latest case brings everything to a head – a young movie star has been killed on a film set, and he’s been assigned the case of finding the killer. Howl makes himself a permanent fixture of the studio system as he tries to “sniff” out the culprit.”

The movie’s leads have yet to be cast. Speaking of Stolz Morris says, “Stoltz doesn’t have the main role, he plays more of a bookend character in the film – he plays a redneck hunter who strolls the back streets of “Griffin Dunne, Nevada” listening out for the Cries of werewolf’s.” They do however seem to have a nice supporting cast taking shape. In addition to Stolz they’ve brought in the great Powers Boothe, his daughter Parisse Boothe, Kam Heskin, Muse Watson, and Stephen Toblowsky.

Werewolves have been done a lot lately, but never really done right. Morris says this take is more of “a horror/comedy – part Buffy the Vampire Slayer, part The Player.” That’s something none of Hollywood’s many recent failed Werewolf franchises have yet tried. It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with.
