Ewan's Electric! Boogie Woogie Woogie!![]()
Those of us who have been itching since Moulin Rouge! to see Ewan McGregor do another musical should not be misled by The Electric Slide. Yes, it is the title of McGregor's next project, but no, it probably won't involve line dancing, or any singing beyond the kind that crooks do when they rat out their compadres to the authorities.
Instead, it's the true story of a 1980s, Los Angeles-area bank robber, who held up more than 72 banks before he was caught by the FBI. Variety writes that the movie will be based on the Gear magazine article "The Yankee Bandit: The Life and Times of Eddie Dodson." The most interesting part of the story may be the participation of Carey Mulligan, a young British actress who broke out big time at this year's Sundance Film Festival, with virtually everyone there talking about how great she was in both An Education and The Greatest. She's got more projects coming up that will be released in the U.S., but to my knowledge this is the first new role she's signed up for since her big Sundance debut. Does that mean that, even though this is the story of a male bank robber, the female will actually have a good part to play? Mostly I just hope that Mulligan is holding on to this lightning bolt of fame she's suddenly got and turning it into great roles. |
