It looks like Sony’s Da Vinci Code sequel Angels & Demons is now moving ahead. According to one of our more reliable sources close to the project, Tom Hanks has been officially locked up to reprise his role as Dr. Robert Langdon in the followup.
Hanks has been in talks to do the film for awhile now, and apparently it took a really big paycheck to get him. Our scooper says it’s the “biggest salary ever paid to an actor in the history of Hollywood.” I guess it doesn’t get much bigger than that does it? But The Da Vinci Code was a huge success for Sony Pictures, particularly internationally. If they have to pay him more than $50 million to get it back, it’s probably worth it. Nobody wants to see a Da Vinci Code sequel with replacement actors. Sorry Jeff Daniels, you won’t be getting a phone call.
Of course since our source for this story must remain anonymous, regard it simply as a solid rumor until Sony Pictures comes out with an official confirmation. But it looks like filming on Angels & Demons should start in July, with Hanks and his Euro-hair joining the already rumored supermodel Gisele Bundchen on the set. The script is by Akiva Goldsman and last we heard Ron Howard is supposed to be back as director.
Angels & Demons is based on another book by Dan Brown. This movie picks up after The Da Vinci Code with Dr. Robert Langdon on the trail of the Illuminati and engaged in a frantic quest to find some sort of uber-powerful energy source. The trailer leads him all around the Vatican, where he’ll no doubt find something that will piss off the Pope. He doesn’t seem to have a sense of humor about these things.

I am happy to see tom hanks once again in the sequel of DVC. When I first saw the cover of DVC, my eyes told me there is something special with the content. I read and ofcourse watched the movie. To be honest, Whenever I read Langdon, Tom will be the first picture in my mind. Great to see him again in the sequel. And, I love tom hanks.
Gisele as vittoria??!! Oh come on people - surely that's a joke? Someone who has made a career of standing look vacant is who they want for the firey italian.??
Just proves Ron Howard doesn't have a scooby-do what he's doing with this project. I'm sure it will take loads of money and be hailed as a "success" but everyone really knows he's f**** up big time. LEAVE THE ACTION BLOCKBUSTERS TO SPIELBERG RON!! - STEP AWAY FROM THE BOOK!.
TDVC and A&D are both excellently written books, I hope the movie will do the book justice. I can't wait and see it when it comes out. Tom Hanks is a great Dr. Langdon, he can portray the character in a way that he is very intellectual and very captivating (not very pleasing to the eye though) but he is a very good actor, I would not any other actor to play him. He is worth every penny the producers paid him.
i loved both books i think tom hanks played a fitting character for langdon he had the face and attitude i imagned langdon would have while reading the da vinci code suprisingly to you all i am a 6th grader and yes i have read the book and angels and demons leonardo da vinci is my idol even though he was homosexual.... thats why i was embaressed to say my idol was a gay guy.......but if it werent for him we wouldnt have helicopters or for instance a number 1 all time selling book the da vinci code hahaha(laughs)
I agree with Joel...Angels & Demons just seems like overall it will be a much more entertaining movie. Though as much as I absolutly love TDVC and the movie, what makes the book good and interesting is all the historical background and whatnot, a lot of which had to be left out of the movie. But too much couldn't be left out, and there was too much thinking and not enough action. For Angels & Demons, they can take out some of the historical aspect, but still be left with a lot of the thrill and action that is left behind. You know all the crazy people will come out of the woodwork about how "anti matter" couldn't possibly be used that way..and the illuminati and freemasons are not related...but hey...controversy is what makes us all anticipate it, and anticipate what Brown is gonna write for the third book.
They didn't exactly do justice to the DaVinci code either, but if you read both books you see angels and demons making a better movie, it's got all the elements right there, this one whould be better I think. Then again what movie does justice to it's beek, tha the beauty about books. Go into it like I did the Davinci code, picture Ron Howard with a chain saw and the book infront of him and then you know what to expect. It's going to be a great movie.
Hey great to see Tom back with his new role!!!!! I am sure the movie will be a big hit just like Da Vinci. I hope that someone goo portrays the character of Vittoria Vetra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, when I watched the first part I honeslty can't say that I've taken all that seriously. I've completely taken it as a fictional movie, as the facts can always be shown in a stranger way that suits us.
I think the writer of this artical never read the books. I was LIVID when they cast Tom Hanks as Langdon. In the book Langdon is hot. Tom Hanks was completely WRONG for the part. The books are good partly because Langdon is a great character. I know I'm not the only one in my demographic (20-35 female) who was pissed at the choice. I was hoping it was a mistake the producers would correct in A&D but no they have &*^% up again.
Wonder how they think they're gonna shoot throughout Rome and Vatican City. The Westminster Abbey scenes were the worst part of TDVC and I hate to think what a fake St. Peter's Square is going to look like.
A&D is a prequel to what happens in TDVC. However, there is no really direct connection from one to the next when it comes to plot. There is no reason it can't be filmed as happening afterwards TDVC.
