FX Company Spills Details About Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity image
After a cluster of news broke back in late February-early March, not much has come out about Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity. From the details we have, we know Robert Downey Jr. will be playing a role and that the film will see him and a female lead stranded in space after the rest of his team is killed by an exploding satellite. Fortunately, the special effects team Framestore (who has worked with Cuaron previously on Children of Men and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) has leaked some details about the movie.

Discovered on the company's website (via The Playlist) some of the details are bound to raise some eyebrows. Likening the effort on the film to Avatar - which the company also worked on - Gravity will be 60% CGI, the same percentage as James Cameron's space epic. The film will also be made in what they call Cuaron's "long and fluid style," the opening sequence alone lasting over 20 minutes. Finally, the site describes the plot as a "contemporary survival thriller that follows a woman as she attempts to make her way back to earth after a satellite crash sets off a chain reaction of further crashes."

The special effects details are great and all (and will likely make the film even more of an event in IMAX) but the question now is where RDJ fits in the grand scheme. If it's just a woman stranded out there, does that mean that he's one of the characters that doesn't survive the crash? According to Deadline, the actor's schedule on the film will be broken up by Sherlock Holmes 2, so how big could his role be if he can take that much time off? While it's hard to expect anything other than a visual masterpiece from Cuaron, there's still a lot that we don't know about this film, but it looks to be one to watch for.
