Freaky wonderkid Dakota Fanning is getting more work… whether we want to see her or not. She’s signed up to star alongside Tom Cruise in the upcoming Steven Spielberg adaptation of War of the Worlds, which Cruise assured us earlier this week will be extremely faithful to the original novel. That’s strange since I don’t remember there being a cute little girl part written into Welles tale of Martian terror in Victorian era England.

Whether H.G. likes it or not, Dakota will be playing Cruise’s ten-year old daughter with filming set to start on the movie some time this November. Whether we like it or not its looking more and more like this movie is going to be NOTHING like the faithful novel adaptation we’ve all been going for and will instead settle on being a Tom Cruise action movie with tentacled set pieces.
