Fantastic Fest is probably best known as the place go for zombies, vampires, and exploding heads but this afternoon Pixar showed up to give everyone a look not only at Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D, but to showcase the first ever trailer for Toy Story 3. It’s Toy Story. The trailer is every bit as perfect as you’d expect it to be.

It starts out by setting up the film’s premise. As predicted by Stinky Pete in Toy Story 2, Andy has grown up and no longer needs toys. In a short little montage we watch him playing with Woody and the gang, growing older until there’s a young man reclining there on screen. Andy is leaving for college and his toys are dropped off at what appears to be a daycare center. Hordes of children and utter chaos ensue. In the process Buzz is somehow damaged or incapacitated, forcing the other toys to press his reset button. One problem: they’re not exactly sure how to do it.

Buzz is reset, back to the factory settings which make him blustery space ranger who has no idea he’s a toy. Unfortunately it also seems they’ve somehow engaged his Spanish language setting and the funniest moments of the trailer have Buzz confusedly dancing the salsa and speaking in a wide variety of non-English dialects.

The trailer is short, to the point, and was presented in really beautiful Real D 3D (complete with a sweet new RealD robot dog logo!) which almost certainly means it’ll debut in front of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D on October 2nd.
