Big news from the set of Harry Potter 5. They’ve finished casting and they’re ready to start shooting. In fact, Warner Brothers has announced that the series new director David Yates will roll film as early as next week.
So who has been cast in this thing? Returning are of course all the familiar faces. Radcliffe and the kids haven’t snuck out of the Potter franchise yet, though rumors that they may soon be through with it persist. But new to the cast is Imelda Staunton, star of the critically acclaimed, Oscar nominated 2004 film Vera Drake. Staunton will play the new Ministry of Magic appointed Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Professor Umbridge. If you’ve seen Vera Drake you’ve probably got a snarky remark about something else she could teach them running through your head… but seriously, drop it.
Less famous are some of the other new faces joining the Potter cast. Evanna Lynch has been cast to play Luna Lovegood. An experienced actress she isn’t, but she does have a witchy look. That's her in the picture to your right.
The villain Bellatrix Lestrange will be played by Helen McCrory, who you might have last seen as Casanova’s mother in Casanova, if IMDB is to be believed.
Natalie Tena will play the shape-shifting witch Nymphadora Tonks. Natalie’s had small roles in movies like About a Boy and Mrs. Henderson Presents, and she now continues having small roles in Harry Potter.
Lastly, the role of Harry’s next door neighbor Mrs. Figg has been handed over to Kathryn Hunter, which must mean that Yates will bring the Dursleys and the muggle world back into play. They were left out in the cold for Harry Potter 4, which was a bit of a shame since the bits with the Dursleys are always a lot of fun.
