First Avatar Reviews Say It's Pretty Great
Before they began screening Avatar for critics around the world today, Fox had set an embargo prohibiting all reviews until opening day, next Friday. Well, we all knew that wasn't going to last. From British newspapers to good old American movie blogs, Avatar reviews are popping up all over the web, and the news is very, very good.
Kirk Honeycutt at The Hollywood Reporter calls it a "jaw-dropping wonder." Variety writes that "Cameron delivers again with a film of universal appeal that just about everyone who ever goes to the movies will need to see." Over in England The Guardian goes ahead and breaks embargo with the following: "So by saying Avatar was really much, much better than expected, that it looked amazing and that the story was gripping – if cheesy in many places – the Guardian is in technical breach of the agreement." My Twitter feed, full of movie bloggers, has been inundated with words like "amazing," "an amazing visual feast," or simply, 'WOWOWOWOWOW." Now is where the interesting things begin, where the movie blogger community-- Cinema Blend included, once we see it tonight and tomorrow-- gets the ball rolling on what's apparently a really, really amazing piece of cinema. If you thought the hype for this movie was insane, just wait until the people encouraging you to go see it are actual movie fans, not just Fox reps. Also: you guys! James Cameron has made another great movie! Wooo hoo! |
