First Ever Review Of Bruno

By Josh Tyler: 2009-06-16 01:21:19
First Ever Review Of Bruno The first ever review of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno has arrived… sort of. It comes via British tabloid The Sun, which claims their review as an exclusive. Why any Hollywood studio would give a sleazy tabloid the first ever review of one of the year’s most hotly anticipated movies is a mystery, unless they’re hoping to associate Bruno with the world of celebutards to further push his personal into the realm of near reality by having his movie reviewed next to pantyless pictures of Lindsay Lohan. Actually, that’s probably exactly the reason they did it. Smart thinking Universal Pictures.

The review isn’t so much of a review as a recounting with a few vague opinions thrown in, but I’ll do my best to guide you through the confusing rundown posted by The Sun’s Gordon Smart. It’s hard to tell exactly what Smart thinks of the movie except that it’s every bit as shocking as Borat and maybe not quite as funny. Whether that means it’s still hilarious but just slightly less is uncertain, it did however push a presumably grown man into “giggling like a 14-year-old” and “cowering behind” his hands.

Mainly though, it sounds like the film contains many references to Nazis and at least one scene which should not be watched by those with delicate temperaments. Gordo warns, “the pygmy sex scene is one of the most horrific incidents ever committed to celluloid. I’m talking fire extinguishers, champagne bottles and mechanically adapted fitness equipment. Teenage boys should under no circumstances watch this with their parents.” Fitness equipment? Well add one more reason to my list of excuses not to go to the gym.

As for whether Gordo actually liked the movie, he sums it up this way: “It is the funniest movie I have seen since, well, Sacha Baron Cohen’s last. Unmissable.” Attempt to read more of Mr. Smart’s review, hidden amongst The Sun’s ham-fisted formatting right here.
