First Grainy Look At Revolutionary Road![]()
All along I've been giving Revolutionary Road the benefit of the doubt-- that it will take its talented stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, seriously, and not use them to simply drum up Titanic reunion attention. And I'm still willing to assume that, but the fact that the trailer debuted last night on Entertainment Tonight isn't exactly a good sign.
The clip from the show has made it to YouTube, of course, so you can check out the grainy version below until the real thing makes it online. And yeah, Mary Hart is talking over the whole thing, so you might be better off waiting until the actual trailer goes online. Again, the studio's decision to put the thing on Entertainment Tonight, without putting a real version online, makes my wonder just how many smart people are involved in this. Revolutionary Road is based on a novel by Richard Yates, one of the first to treat American suburbia in the 50's as a trap rather than a gleaming ideal. Anyone hoping for more Titanic-style romance will be disappointed; Leo and Kate's characters, a married couple living in suburban Connecticut, are bound to spend the entire movie fighting and resenting each other. But hey, it's kind of hard to tell, since the only trailer we have is grainy and Mary Hart-inflected. Just because the movie is set in the 50s doesn't mean you can ignore the Internet! |
