James Cameron’s next big budget sci-fi epic Avatar is still a long way off, but we have a look at what may be the movie’s first official teaser poster. The one sheet to your right (Update: Or it would be to your right if Fox hadn't just sent us a cease and desist) comes courtesy of the Italian site Bad Taste. Judging from it’s dimensions, it’s either an international poster or some sort of banner for the film.
It’s a fairly simple little poster, but appropriate if you’ve read any of the early drafts of the Avatar script which have been floating around the web. The alien landscape in which Cameron’s characters find themselves figures prominently in the story, to the point that it’s almost a character unto itself. A character that will no doubt be entirely computer generated. Avatar figures to contain so much CGI it’ll practically be an animated movie.
Avatar is currently slated for a December 2009 release. It stars Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver in the story of a paraplegic war veteran from Earth who is taken to another planet inhabited by a humanoid race at odds with Earth’s citizens. For more info, check out our preview.
UPDATE! Apparently the artwork is fake, at least according to James Cameron. Which of course makes you wonder why Fox would cease and desist something they don't even own. Perhaps it's simply early artwork Cameron hasn't seen? Hard to tell at this point. But, hang on a bit more and maybe we'll get an official poster for this thing.
