First Look At Jared Harris As Moriarty In Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows
With the first trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows set to hit theaters in front of Harry Potter this weekend, it's time to get the promotional gears turning for what Warner Bros. is hoping will be another massive holiday hit. Entertainment Tonight gave us one horrible, voiceover-addled look at the new trailer, but USA Today has something much more appealing-- the first good image of Jared Harris as Holmes's ultimate nemesis, Moriarty.
Sure, we could see him standing in the background in the teaser posters, but this is a much closer look, and boasts some wicked facial hair that we at least weren't seeing in Harris's Mad Men role. The accompanying article has some quotes from director Guy Ritchie saying some of the usual stuff about how excited he was to return, how much he likes the character, all of that. It also makes the intriguing note that Rachel McAdams will indeed return as Holmes's love interest Irene Adler, which last we heard was still very much up in the air. Noomi Rapace is definitely playing the love interest this time, as a gypsy woman named Sim, so maybe Adler will just show up to bridge the gap between the two films? Given how many crazy directions the first Sherlock Holmes went, there's really no telling what we could expect.
Even though Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows still boasts a pretty terrible title, and isn't quite as exciting as the film scheduled to open the same day with an even worse title, Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol, I'm looking forward to another chance just to see Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law bicker and solve crimes together. Having Harris mixed in there is just a bonus.
