First Look At Johnny Depp As The Mad Hatter

By Katey Rich: 2008-11-17 17:31:01
First Look At Johnny Depp As The Mad Hatter What would happen to Edward Scissorhands if he got rid of the knives, developed an interest in millinery and bought some fancy china? He'd probably wind up like the Mad Hatter, at least Tim Burton's version of the character. Not like we didn't expect it, but the Hatter, played by Johnny Depp in Burton's Alice in Wonderland, will look a lot like the dark-eyed, pale-faced Burton characters of other movies.

This is all based on some concept art unearthed by the Depp fansite Johnny-Depp.org. It looks like a photo but probably isn't, given that the movie will be motion-captured animation. But the concept art is pretty detailed, and offers all kinds of mysteries to ponder. Why is he holding a rabbit? Why is his thumb bandaged? And if he's this creepy as an actual human, think of how bizarre the motion-capture version will be.

Check out the full-size image here, and ponder away. It's a long time before the movie will be released and actual images will emerge, so this may be all we have to go on for a while.
