First Look At Meryl Streep And Jim Broadbent From The Margaret Thatcher Biopic

We're all expecting a pitch-perfect imitation from Meryl Streep when she plays former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in the forthcoming biopic The Iron Lady. But we're not really going to be able to see how good the impression is until we see some actual footage from the film, which means that in the meantime, we're left to marvel over the hair and makeup jobs in still images. The latest opportunity for just that has come from The Daily Mail, where they're premiering the first look at Streep and Jim Broadbent together as Denis and Margaret Thatcher, from a recreation of the 1980 Conservative Party conference in Brighton.

Check out the image below, and below that a shot of the real Thatcher and her husband for comparison's sake. The Daily Mail comes with a lot of fawning over how much research Streep did for the role and how hard the hair and makeup team worked, but it all boils down to what you already know: this is Meryl Streep, and she takes this shit seriously. The Iron Lady, directed by Mamma Mia's Phyllida Lloyd, apparently won't be ready in time for festival season in the fall, but will almost definitely be released in time to qualify for this year's Oscars, so plan your ballots accordingly.
