First Look At Venom

By Josh Tyler: 2006-07-23 00:00:00
First Look At Venom After months, no years of will he won't he speculation, we finally have some sort of actual confirmation. Topher Grace really will be playing Venom in Spider-Man 3.

Reports are pouring in from the floor of Comic Con, from sources like AICN, where footage of Topher Grace (as Eddie Brock) actually becoming Venom was shown. He's not just playing Venom, but he becomes him in the film, in exactly the way each and every web head has hoped. It's going to be glorious.

Here be spoilers. Stop reading if you don't want them…. The footage shown at comic con shows Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) praying in a church for god to kill Peter Parker. The clip ends with Parker at the top of the church, trying to rip the Venom symbiote from his body and saying "I have to stop it." As he claws it free, a drop falls and lands on Topher Grace, who's looking up. The drop wraps itself around him just as the entire symbiote falls and hits him, enveloping him. End spoilers.

For those of us not flitting around the country to comic book conventions and instead living real lives, Sony has done us the service of updating their Spidey 3 official site with new wallpapers from the film. One of which (to your right) is of Venom taking over someone's body. That's Topher Grace… isn't it? It's hard to tell.

I've dropped both of the new Spider-Man 3 desktops in our image gallery for you. Stay tuned as more Spidey scoops keep pouring out from the floor of this year's San Diego Comic Con.

  1. Mysterio Says:

4th villian will be dr.conners. LIZZARD

    FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

green goblin aka harry is in it too but in the end will help an outnumbered spidey.

for lizzard and sandman join forces at the same time VENOM! is out to kill parker and spiderman

    so peters hands are full...

harry will of course try to kill sperman first and cause trouble
but in the end he will sarifce himself to save peter AKA spiderman

he will turn back good and save the day but die doing so.

we may even see manwolf which may turn out to be a quickie foe
for spiderman does not kill manwolf he simply takes off the necklace which makes
jamesons son change into the beast and saves him.

for sure SANDMAN and LIZZARD! VENOM!!! GREEN GOBLIN!!!!!!!!

    top that!

  1. Hex Says:

Thats got to be one of the worst descriptions I've heard yet. Maybe Lizard and Manwolf will have a cameo appearance in the film nothing has been hinted at all towards either being a major villian at all. I doubt they'll put the Lizard into it at all, it's just too much to put into one film and can't give justice to what they've already got.

    Fact: Topher grace is Venom
    Fact: Sandman does appear
Fact: Harry places some incarnation of Green Goblin/Hobgoblin or whoever but he is a villian

NOT Fact: The Lizard will team up with Sandman
NOT Fact: Jamesons son will be Manwolf

Those last two are just too farfetched to be fit in at all. Think about it logically. They have to fit in an inner struggle with Peter which leads to him junking the symbiote, the transformation of Eddie Brock into Venom as well as why he hates Peter, Sandman and his story as well as Harry and his revenge against Peter. The movie is going to be tightly packed as it is and there's no space for extras.

The part about Harry sacrificing himself, it sounds about right but it won't be because Spiderman is out numbered. Sandman doesn't fit with any of the other characters MOs. Harry is in it for personal revenge and so is Eddie Brock but they wouldn't team up. Maybe Sandman is in it for revenge as well but those three would never make a team.

Sandman, Venom and Harry will be villains in this movie with maybe a few other minor villains as filler but I can say with almost certainty that they won't add in another major character like the Lizard if they can't do him full justice for the fans.

I don't know where you're getting your information but at the moment I'm pretty sure that where ever it's from it's all speculation as nothing has even the most remote been nudged in the direction of the Lizard or Manwolf in the film.

  1. Ben Says:

Fuck this, I guess I'm the only person that's pissed that they are going to intoduce one of the best villains in comic book history to all the fucking retards all over the world that don't even like comics and have no clue about Venom what so ever and after the movie they'll say they love him and always have. Fuck. And Topher Grace, what the hell? He's an adolescent little pussy that starred on a horrible show and can't act in a movie to save his life. They're just going to ruin Venom for all of us real fans especially since tthey aren't going to have the time nor the balls to tell the real story about the secret wars and Peter finding the symbiote. Hollywood can't do anything with Venom but fuck him up to make him appeal to all the stupid fucking high school girls. Fuck.

  1. dj Says:

Topher Grace is playing Eddie Brock? The big-muscled, no-joke monster Eddie Brock who pumps steel every night is being played by a thin funny-looking comedian? I am a devoted Marvel fan and I thought casting Toby as Spidey was terrific, but Topher is just not the vengeful villain-type who would hunt down Spidey menacingly with a roaring anger that would send onlookers scared to death...I just hope they added 100 lbs+ to Topher on the big screen with real muscles that would create an awesome man-symbiote fusion. peace

  1. Dan Says:

I think that this movie has too many vilians. How are they gonna cram the stories of 4 vilians into a 2 and a half hour movie. As much as I like Topher, i do not think he would have been the best person to play Eddie Brock. If they would have gotten somebody like Vin Diesel, then Venom would be portrayed more as he was in teh comics. Thats may imput PEACE.

  1. james Says:

venom should be a 1 villian charactor in this movie. his chractor is to complex to be joint up with 2 other villians. if anything venom should be introduced at the end of the movie and it being left on a cliff hanger.

and the guy playing eddie brook sucks. eddie brook is supposed to be a big muscle man.

i havnt seen the venom costume yett, but i bet it doesnt do the comic chractor that will all love the justice he deserves.

  1. lostfan Says:

Wow, they completely screwed up by casting an effeminate, coward-looking kid to fill the muscle-bound shoes of Eddie Brock. I refuse to pay to see this movie now, all because they totally gayed-up VENOM!

  1. dave Says:

Make your own movie Ben. If you're concerned so much.

  1. Draco Says:

I think Judson Mills, Micky Rourke, Dominic Purcell, Triple H or that dude from the movie Red Dragon would have been better choices for Venom. I would love to know which bonehead thought Topher Grace was a good choice.
To add insult to injury, Harry won't be the Green Goblin in the upcoming film but some Tony Hawk-looking reject on a glider. The only good thing is that he won't be the Hobgoblin-The latter has been bastardized enough already.

  1. NFWebSlinger Says:

First off...Lizard will not be in this movie. Mainly because if the lizard were to show up then he would have by now because he is one of the first villians Spidey faces. This is a pretty big strecth of story with Venom because his suit doesnt show up until the secret wars series and his first appearence is until issue 300. Secondly, Harry Osborn will not be the Hobgoblin or the Green Goblin, his official name is the "Green Goblin II" and he is the one who will kill the beloved Gwen Stacy. Sandman will also make an appearence in this movie which is great timing considering Spidey just got done battling Doc Ock, so it is only fair he takes another memeber of the Sinister Six. And lastly Topher Grace is a "Marvel"ous choice for Eddie Brock, for two reasons. One, in the comics Eddie Brock is not huge to begin with. And two, they chose Topher because him and Tobey Maguire look alot alike, and it will let the audience know that these two are going to share a special bond together. All in all Spider-Man 3 will crush the box office and live up to the Spidey name.

  1. j Says:

i agree with NFWebSlinger about the topher grace role in this movie and second i dont think lizard would be in it because there are way too many in this one already

  1. draco Says:

I just saw the movie and to be honest I didn't like the direction it was heading in for many reasons: 1. Instead of logically casting Harry as the second Green Goblin, they made him look like some Riddler/ scuba diver looking dork on a flying skateboard. 2. They made Sandman the real killer of Uncle Ben. 3. They made Peter so stupid as to kiss Gwen Stacey in the same fashion that he kissed Mary Jane in the first movie, especially given the fact that he knew Mary Jane was nearby watching and that it would be publically broadcasted-Even for a comic book movie that was so unbelievable. 4. The worst part is that they made Venom, a bulked up and scary supervillain into a scrawny and annoying twerp. I believe that Raimi did this on purpose to spite the comic book fans because originally he didn't want Venom in any of his movies but was coerced into it just to make the movie sell. He put Venom in it just to shut the fans up but at the same time show his disdain for the character by making him a joke character that you would easily despise. Overall, this was Raimi's way of saying that he doesn't care about the fans and that they should put up or shut up. The truth hurts, doesn't it?
