First Look At The Watchmen Cast In Costume

First Look At The Watchmen Cast In Costume It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The images of Watchmen’s heroic cast in costume have popped up online, released by director Zack Snyder on his production blog in a post titled, “One Year to Midnight”. It’s the official start of the countdown to the movie’s debut, which, is currently slated for release on March 6, 2009. One year to go.

I can say without reservation that the cast looks great. Snyder has given us full body photos of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Comedian, Carla Gugino as Silk Spectre (or is that Malin Akerman as Spectre II?), Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl, Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach, and Matthew Goode as Ozymandias.

Below is a little side by side comparison I put together, with each character compared to the way they were originally drawn in the Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons comic:

  • the costumes look decent can't wait to see the movie just picked up the graphic novel RORSCHACH IS THE BEST OF THEM ALL
  • I am so nervous that this movie is not going to be good that I can hardly sleep. Its the best comic ever written hands down. Please don't ruin it!!!
  • I would like to share with you the happy, I was admitted to Harvard University this year, we bless me!

  • Score a "YAHTZEE!" for Honorless.

Too many films with a built-in audience have been twisted to serve a greater good of a "general audience". The result...a lousy movie and a theatre full of VERY angry people in (insert sci-fi/superhero story here) t-shirts.

It's thrilling to see that the Hollywood Machine is slowly recognizing the power in those that proudly dub themselves "Geek". Get it right, and we're the kind to count for two and three people in a theatre with multiple viewings (not to mention how we'll buy every incarnation of special edition DVD release).

    :)
  • I'm not a huge fan of nipples on anyone's costume...

That being said, this looks great. I can only hope that the faithfulness to the novel with which these costumes were designed holds true for the rest of the movie. Not really sure what the 'general audience' will find 'retarded' or 'laughable.'

Personally, I think it's a movie crew's job to serve the STORY they're trying to tell, and not to try ALTER it to make it more digestible for whoever the 'general audience' is supposed to be. When you make a movie like this, you start off with a built-in fanbase of everyone who liked the graphic novel. When you start changing things in order to appease a 'general audience', you alienate your built-in fanbase by messing with their beloved story.
  • There's always one to start it off.

I think it's abundantly clear that Snyder is not making this film for the "general audience". Let them laugh.

Snyder's team is out to make as faithful a telling as they possibly can of Moore/Gibbons story. Without a doubt, he proved he can handle a phenomenal graphic novel adaptation with "300".

"Watchmen" will be for the fans that know and appreciate the series...if anyone "general" comes on board, score another convert. If they don't...oh well.

I, for one, think these are spot-on, and I'm VERY psyched for next year!
  • Those look crap. The general audience will find these costumes retarded and laughable.

Oh and that Ozymandis dude has Nipples on his suit.

    Let the flame wars begin.

  • I believe that is Malin Ackerman.. but those pictures are absolutely awesome.
