First Official Images From Depp's Rum Diary image
Finally we have something official from The Rum Diary. The Johnny Depp adaptation of what is, in my opinion, Hunter S. Thompson’s greatest work, has been finished and sitting around somewhere for what seems like years, with no real evidence of its existence other than a few unofficial set photos. There have been rumblings recently that the thing may actually be released, some day, so maybe this is a good sign.

Film Totaal has the first, real, official images from the film. In them, you’ll see Johnny Depp playing Paul Kemp, a journalist who in the late 1950s moves from New York to work for Puerto Rico’s only English newspaper in San Juan. He spends most of his time there drunk or in trouble and Kemp is basically a stand-in for Hunter S. Thompson himself, a feat we’ve already seen Johnny Depp pull off brilliantly in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Check out the photos and keep your fingers crossed, maybe we’ll actually see this movie some day.
