We’ve seen pictures of Robert Downey Jr. out of costume in Iron Man, we’ve even seen pictures of him forging his first super suit. But Entertainment Weekly has the first picture anywhere of Iron’s full on hero costume in action.

This is Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in his cybernetic Iron Man Mark III suit. From what we’ve heard, there will be two suits featured in the movie. The first will be the more basic, grey suit we showed you a picture of him forging here. This is obviously the more advanced suit, the one we all think of when we think of Iron Man.

I’ve got to say, it really looks fantastic. It looks like Iron Man director Jon Favreau is taking a very traditional approach to the look of the character. He’s perfect, could have stepped right off the cover of an Iron Man comic.

Iron Man is a movie adaptation of the popular Marvel comic book about a tortured, alcoholic billionaire with a heart defect named Tony Stark. By wearing a special suit made of iron he keeps his hear pumping, and gets certain bonus super-powers at the same time. Stark is played by the great Robert Downey Jr. Look for Iron Man in theaters summer 2008.
